Your road to wellness doesn’t have to be complicated, but sometimes you need to know the rules to, for example, get the most out of your Stebby health benefit. In the second installment of the “User Kevin” series, our senior customer support specialist takes a closer look at a topic that comes up year after year: tax-exempt services and categories. Kevin shows you how to identify the services you’re eligible for and how to purchase them all safely.

What are these mythical “tax-exempt services”?

When we talk about tax-exempt services, we’re referring to the tax exemption for special benefits. Simply put: The Estonian government allows your employer to contribute 400 euros a year toward your health without incurring additional taxes.

The Estonian Tax and Customs Board has identified the specific areas that fall under this category:

  • participation fees for public sports events;
  • expenses directly related to the regular use of sports or exercise facilities or to massage;
  • expenses incurred by an employer to maintain existing sports facilities;
  • expenses for services provided by a person licensed to provide health care services in the context of dental care, rehabilitation, psychological treatment, physical therapy, or speech therapy, and for nutritional counseling services provided by a licensed nutritionist;
  • insurance premiums under a health insurance contract.

Please note: This tax exemption is personal. It is intended to support your well-being, you cannot use it to buy a massage for a friend or relative.

How can you find out what your employer covers?

Every company is different. Some allow employees to purchase only tax-exempt services, while others are more generous and also cover taxable categories (such as wellness products or beauty services).

Kevin’s tip for checking:

  • Online: Look at the menu on the left side of your account. When you hover your mouse over “Compensated categories“, you’ll immediately see which categories you’re eligible for.
  • In the app: Open Account -> Accounts -> Compensated categories, and you’ll see an overview of your reimbursable categories.

More about our categories

Stebbys has a total of 18 categories – ranging from sports to mental health. Employers select the ones that align with their company’s health policies. The categories are:

  • Sports
  • Active Lifestyle
  • Physiotherapy
  • Massage
  • Spa
  • Mental Health
  • Wellness Counseling
  • Medical
  • Tests
  • Optics
  • Dental
  • Events
  • Wellness goods
  • Rehabilitation
  • Beauty
  • Nutrition Counseling
  • Other
  • Stebby Health Insurance

Important note: If you are searching for a specific service provider, you will be shown all locations that offer at least one service that meets the criteria you have specified. This does not mean that the entire range of services offered by these providers is available to you for compensation.

Look for the green “Compensated” label next to the service price – this is your guarantee that your purchase will go smoothly.

It’s that simple! If you know what to look for, improving your health is just a matter of a few clicks. As a next step, download the Stebby app (if you don’t already have it), because we’ll be talking more about it soon.
